Antwerp Visitor Information
Famous for its Diamond district, Antwerp is the second largest city in Belgium. Home to some of the finest architecture in the country, the city is also a busy port town with a comparatively less sparkly aspect on Antwerp life.
Places to visit while in Antwerp if you love art should include the Royal Museum of Fine Art, the fifteenth century Cathedral of Our Lady. Here you will enjoy the work of Antwerp’s famous former inhabitant, Peter Paul Rubens (amongst other great painters) as well as the sixteenth century stained glass windows. For great architecture, you need to see the Central Station building as well as enjoying the sights the Grote Markt has to offer. At every turn you will spot 16th century guild houses still standing proud.
When booking accommodation, hotels are grouped together quite closely in the Central Station region. If you want a real taste of the old Antwerp, you may find one or two historical establishments in the Old City.
